Who needs HSRP?
It is mandatory for all vehicles to have HSRP plates. The number plates sold after 2019 already have HSRP installed, but the number plates purchased before 2019 need to replace their old plates with HSRP plates.
Benefits of HSRP Number Plates
Prevents Vehicle Theft: HSRP’s advanced security features make the plates nearly impossible to tamper with or duplicate, reducing the risk of theft and aiding vehicle recovery.
Verifies Authenticity: The unique identification code and hologram allow authorities to verify a vehicle’s authenticity, helping to combat vehicle fraud, such as selling stolen vehicles with fake plates.
Enhances Road Safety: HSRPs facilitate easier identification of vehicles involved in accidents or illegal activities, promoting road safety and aiding law enforcement in maintaining order.
Effortless Tracking: HSRPs can be tracked through Laser Identification Systems, with ANPR-enabled cameras reading the plate’s serial number, ensuring transparency and reducing criminal activities. Benefits of HSRP Number Plates

HSRP Colour Code for Vehicles
It is mandatory for all vehicle owners to use High-security Registration Plates (HSRP) and colour-coded stickers on their cars and bikes. These stickers help identify the vehicle’s fuel type and Bharat Stage emission standard. The colour-coded sticker is placed on the vehicle’s windscreen, with the following distinctions:
Blue for petrol and CNG vehicles
Orange for diesel vehicles
Green for electric vehicles

HSRP Plates for New & Old Vehicles
According to MoRTH, HSRP plates will be necessary for all vehicles new and old beginning in 2022. Licence plates that are manufactured after April 2019 already have HSRP elements. Therefore, in 2022, High Security Number Plates must be obtained online or offline for cars that were bought before April 2019.
When registering an older car for the HSRP, the previously outlined procedures are followed. You can choose to apply online for a car registered in Delhi or in Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, obtaining a High Security Number Plate for an antique vehicle may require you to visit an RTO in some states.
